Creating another link table in DB

IF I was to create another table in the DB would that hinder the import?

If not

If I was to create another link table but name it link2 could I use the same fields.

basically I want to mimic the link function but use it in another block on the main page.

One says affiliates.. one will say friend.. for instance..

It should affect the import since the import only pays attention to the media and categories table.
